In recent opinion editorials in the Tampa Bay Times and Arizona Republic, Honeywell Chairman and CEO Dave Cote wrote about the importance of passing Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation. Cote explains how TPA will help the U.S. get the best trade deals possible by establishing key negotiating objectives in advance and ensuring that new agreements are concluded to our high standards and rules rather than submitting to those of other countries. This allows U.S. lawmakers to set objectives for trade deals and give the final agreement an up-or-down vote.
“In order to meet the challenges and seize opportunities in the global economy, the U.S. needs policies to ensure American companies and their employees are the most competitive in the world. A pro-growth trade policy, including passage of Trade Promotion Authority, or TPA, is an area where government can help create jobs,” writes Cote. “We cannot allow other countries to set our trade agenda for us.”
