The Defense Security Service (DSS) recognized Honeywell’s Golden Valley, Minnesota, facility with a 2015 James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award during a recent ceremony in Las Vegas. The award, which recognizes industrial security excellence, is among the most prestigious honors that can be bestowed on cleared defense contractors.
Out of the more than 13,000 facilities cleared for classified work nationwide, only 41 received a Cogswell Award this year. Nominees go through a vigorous review process that includes external vetting and examination by a national review team that focuses on consistency and innovation in security programs. DSS makes the final award selections.
The Golden Valley facility is the global headquarters of Honeywell’s Automation and Control Solutions (ACS) division and employees in several strategic business units: Honeywell Environmental and Combustion Controls, Honeywell Building Solutions, Honeywell Connected Home and Sensing and Productivity Solutions. The site also includes some Honeywell Labs operations, including a Honeywell Design Center, and part of Honeywell Aerospace.
"On behalf of the thousands of employees in Golden Valley and throughout our Industrial Security Management organization, we are honored to be recognized for maintaining a superlative record of safeguarding critical information," said Kai Hanson – Director, Industrial Security Management. "It is a testament to Honeywell’s long history of outstanding service to the U.S. government."
Established in 1966, the Cogswell Award is named in honor of the late Air Force Col. James S. Cogswell, the first chief of industrial security within the Department of Defense. Cogswell was responsible for developing the basic principles of the Industrial Security Program, which include an emphasis on the partnership between industry and government to protect classified information.
