Job Description:
  • Perform site survey to audit the existing condition of the WAN transport and supporting infrastructure to sufficiently capture the information required to perform the design and integration of that site to the network.
  • Provide information required to update overall network system architecture. Overall system architecture is maintained in MS Visio and includes network and transport parameters and information per OSG standards.
  • Verify fiber termination and panel location. Update FDP termination panel detail for existing and new terminations applicable to WAN network integration for that site.
  • Create the Telecom Solution Proposal which defines the recommended telecom solution and high-level requirements to deliver the solution as per project standards. Telecom/wireless solution.
  • Create the Telecom Detail Proposal which is the low-level design that includes the diagrams, drawing packages, bill of materials and configuration files to stage, kit, install, test and accept, and integrate the site to the network.
  • Work with Network Design Engineer to properly create the installation drawing package to be submitted with the Telecom Detail proposal.
  • This position requires passing random drug, alcohol and background checks.
  • Directly work with the customers, engineers and project managers during site survey, design & installation.
  • Interact with IT department during the project network programming and installation.
  • Interact with other engineers and work side to side as a team to meet the project design tasks and deadlines.
  • Interface with other department managers, project administrators, finance, and executive management.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the accuracy of site surveys, Telecom Solution and Detail Proposals.
  • Integral part of a multi-technology designing and engineering team.
  • Read & analyze project specifications & drawings.
  • System study, design, site visits / surveys & meeting with customers, project management and engineers.
  • Assist in the Research and design methods for survey processes.
  • Use equipment and tools to accurately measure Rf signal and cell strengths to include longitudes and latitudes.
  • Build maps, sketches, and charts based off survey.
  • Report on survey results and present findings to clients
  • Collaborate with engineers and architects on several projects.
  • Perform a variety of testing such as sweep and PIM.
  • Work hands on with spectrum analyzers, transmitters, and other electronic test equipment.
  • Perform site surveys and in-depth walkthroughs.
  • Installation of various Cisco equipment and other equipment from a variety of manufacturers.
  • Complete ownership of assigned projects and individual tasks.
  • Ensure the proper designing and engineering of each OSG Network project.
  • Perform all the assigned tasks and meet the scheduled deadlines.
  • Review of drawing packages for accuracy prior to submission.
  • Create engineered equipment lists for each surveyed project.
  • Work with other departments to facilitate equipment installation based on system design.
  • Support project managers with technical matters on projects.
  • Support service technicians with repair and product service issues.
  • Meet with clients, consultants, etc. to review project design, coordination and implementation.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend product or system training and certification as required.
  • Creation of proposals for projects.
  • Maintain test equipment and tools for continuous use.
  • Test systems integration before installation.
Experience & Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of RF, IP networks and SCADA systems
  • Must be able to pass background check with References.
  • Travel to various job sites in NY, CT, ME.
  • Previous experience as a surveyor or in a similar role.
  • Working knowledge of GPS and GIS.
  • 2 year technical college course in CAD design, engineering or networks preferred.
  • Tech savvy, including working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Visio and MS Office.
  • Networking experience is a plus (e.g. cisco, Nokia).
  • Problem solver / Analytical
  • Clean driving record with valid driver’s license
  • Proficiency with Fiber Testing and PIM preferred
  • Installation of various fiber cables and fiber heads (single/multi-mode, LC, SC, FC, ST, etc.).
  • Perform cable terminations and fusion splicing.
  • Experience with site surveys a plus.
  • Understanding of network standards, design & drafting a plus.
  • Ability to process & assimilate technical data.
  • Ability to work alone or in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written and oral communication skills.
  • First Aid/CPR – Up to date certification required.
  • RF Awareness Certificate – Recommended
  • OSHA 30 – Recommended.
